Paul Osborne and Catherine Davis
We seek to convey the power of untamed places and the sensuality and structure of individual fruits, shells and plants. Our landscapes, intimate flower fruit and shell portraits, and other botanical images reveal the structure, mystery, and essential wildness of the natural world.
We work in digital and 35 mm. film. Our flower, shell and botanical images are shot using natural light. Most of the plants we photograph we grow in our heirloom New England seaside garden. In our series of flower portraits on black, the tension between the beautiful and detailed blossoms and the stylized presentation focuses the viewer on the amazing detail and texture of the subject. Our fruit portraits celebrate their voluptuous bounty. Our shell closeups examine the organic architecture of nature.
In contrast to our intimate plant portraits, our landscape work explores our fascination with vast natural places. Our American Southwest Series concentrates on the amazing geology of the landscape as well as the unique plants that grow there. We hope to convey our emotional connection to this vast, wild world.
Our color prints have been exhibited in the Hubbard Museum of the American West in New Mexico and in Europe as part of the Austrian and Special Themes Super Circuit 2004 and 2005. Our work appears in the Best of Photography Annual 2004 & 2005 and has won awards from the National Photo Awards 2004, 2005 & 2006. Our images are also part of various corporate collections.
